DONE Lab Laboratory was
inaugurated at the School of Engineering of UMinho (EEUM), in Guimarães. The
structure resulted from a partnership between UMinho and Bosch Car Multimedia
Portugal.
UMinho and Bosch have inaugurated DONE Lab, the only
laboratory in Portugal for the advanced additive manufacture of prototypes and
tools. The ceremony took place on 28th November 2016, at 11h30, in the Main
Auditorium of the EEUM and was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology
and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, the Secretary of State for Development and
Cohesion, Nelson de Souza, the Bosch administrators, Carlos Ribas, Lutz Welling
and Sven Ost, the Rector of UMinho, António M. Cunha, among other
personalities.
The laboratory aims to support several projects that are underway in the
framework of the partnership between UMinho and Bosch. “We are developing
innovative projects, but then we need physical prototypes in order to test and
show Bosch costumers and the researchers themselves, in order for them to
understand how they may improve the design issues for manufacturing”, the
UMinho’s coordinator of the Bosch-UMinho partnership, António José Pontes,
explained.
DONE Lab aims to foster new projects and partnerships with Bosch, with the
mission of showing the best results in research, development and innovation
(R&D&I). António José Pontes also strengthened the importance of
involving the entire academic community – from bachelors’ students to
professors – in this partnership, in a logic of expansion and growth.
The DONE Lab Laboratory is Inserted in the largest university-company project
in the country, Innovative Car HMI Programme, which predicts a global
investment of 54.7 million euros until 2018.
