Description


The objective of the course is providing the relevant educational and scientific knowledge that will be required to:
i) encourage students to develop, in a independent way, scientific work and deeply advanced research in the envisaged field,
ii) provide students advanced knowledge in the field of science and engineering of polymers and composites,
iii) deepen the knowledge acquired by students in previous cycle courses in order to provide them a better training and preparation to the active life, so they may contribute to the advancement of current knowledge in the science and engineering of polymers and composites through a research creative, critical and independent

Access to higher education


The conclusion of this Doctoral degree allows the realization of research activity at post-doctoral level

Careers


Holders of PhD degree in science and engineering of polymers and composites will possess proper skills for to take positions of responsibility in the development and coordination of scientific research, management of complex processes and high-qualified people, both in the industrial as in technical-scientific research systems at level national and international

Access to this cycle of studies requires an application to the School of Engineering of the University of Minho.

This information does not replace consultation of the Regulation of the study cycle Leading to obtaining the degree of Doctor from the University of Minho and other documents.

Formal requirements


Applicants to the course must be holders of a MSc degree in polymer engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering or legal equivalent. Applicants holding an engineering degree (5 years) in areas related to polymer engineering may be also admitted when they present a scientific or particularly relevant curriculum that the Scientific Council of the School of Engineering of the Minho University recognise to attest they have the skills/knowledge needed for carrying out this cycle of studies.

Are also allowed candidates possessing academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae recognized by the Scientific Council School of engineering as attesting their capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.

May be also admitted applicants who meet one of the requirements referred in subparagraphs a) to c) from paragraph 1 of article 7th of the regulations of the Doctoral Program in Science and Engineering of Polymers and Composites and those ones that meet one of the requirements stated in subparagraphs b) and c) from article 30th of the Portuguese Decree-Law 74/2006 from March, 24.
