Description


The Leaders for Technical Industries’ PhD Program is intended to train knowledge-based leaders for companies with a technological profile, enabling a new European paradigm in managing product development and production systems, supported by a doctoral level education. This program looks to develop human resources competences fostering the innovative application of new knowledge in successful products and/or processes.

Access to higher education


LTI graduates are capable of:
i) leading multidisciplinary teams addressing new and complex challenges in product development and manufacturing operations;
ii) planning and managing innovation strategies of technological-based companies; and
iii) to develop and implement research programs under industrial environments.

Access to this cycle of studies requires an application to the School of Engineering of the University of Minho.

Formal requirements


Candidates to the doctoral program have specific entry requirements. They should hold a master's degree or legal equivalent, hold a bachelor's degree and have a curriculum especially relevant to this cycle of studies, or hold a curriculum recognized as attesting capacity for the completion of this doctoral program.
The main target population consists of holders of Master degrees in any engineering area, but preferably in fields that match this program, such as: Mechanical Engineering an related areas (Aeronautics, Automotive, Naval, etc.), Materials Engineering and related areas (Polymers, Metallurgy, etc), Industrial Engineering or Biomedical Engineering. Other Technical backgrounds may be considered (e.g. Masters in industrial design, physics, informatics), but such an applicant needs to be well supported by a relevant industrial or research curriculum in the program area (product development and manufacturing).
