Description
The main objectives of this cycle of studies are to provide students with the necessary skills for the professional exercise of excellence and for the development of research activities, within the scope of the master's thesis and of research projects in which they may participate, encouraging the most suited to continue their third cycle studies, such as doctoral the programmes at the University of Minho. Thus, the training obtained in the Master in Civil Engineering will provide the masters to use of the knowledge acquired in the four areas of specialization available, for the resolution of complex problems and in for approaching research projects in civil engineering and construction. In pursuit of these objectives, the study program of this master's degree reflects the results of the research, namely, that carried out in the research centres where the lecturing staff is integrated.
Key learning outcomes
1. To adopt advanced techniques for analysing problems in civil engineering and construction and to develop appropriate methodologies for addressing these problems;
2. To integrate and lead work teams and to adequately communicate the results achieved;
3. To develop projects, perform material and component tests and to analyse and understand experimental data, integrating the technical, economic, environmental and social responsibility aspects, and using appropriate digital approaches to each problem under consideration;
4. To find and implement solutions that satisfy the needs of employers and the requirements of customers, within the limits of technical and economic reasonableness and ethical, environmental and social responsibility principles;
5. To carry out research and development activities and to undertake advanced studies, namely, of the third cycle, in these areas of knowledge.
Careers
The course provides a wide range of professional opportunities, arising from the numerous skills acquired and recognized to graduates by Professional Orders for the exercise of Civil Engineering acts.
Thus, the recognition granted by the Professional Orders to graduates is taken for granted, according to the level of qualification obtained in this cycle of studies, and the provisions of Regulation No. 420/2015, Laws No. 41/ 2015 and No. 31/2009, which identify a very significant number of job opportunities. For example, graduates can design, produce, manage and maintain civil engineering works, produce construction materials, and participate in consultants or territory planning teams.
