The School of Engineering of the University of
Minho (EEUM) organised the “Workshop EEUM: Engineering for the Future”. The
event took place on the Campus of Azurém, in Guimarães, on the 29th
November 2017.
As a conclusion of the Workshops carried out during 2017 at the EEUM’s
Departments, the “Workshop EEUM: Engineering for the Future” took place on the
29th November. The event aimed at promoting a debate on the current
situation of the School and on the definition of strategies and guidelines for
the future.
The programme of the initiative included the presentation of the main themes
discussed by each subunit.
“The balance of the Workshop was very positive. People discuss openly
and had the opportunity to get to know each other better, as far as dynamics
between the Departments and Research Centres of the School are concerned. This initiative
allowed us to focus on some problems that will affect the next five years and be
aware to the challenges that will face ahead”, João L. Monteiro, Dean of the
EEUM, highlighted. “We have to be aware of the existing problems, so that
solutions can be pointed out and validated. At the moment, we are trying to
identify these main gaps, but we are certain that we are on the right track”,
João L. Monteiro, concluded.
From March to July 2017, the Presidency of the EEUM carried out a series
of Workshops, in an unprecedented institutional tour visiting all subunits of
the School [of Engineering]. The Presidency of the EEUM, the School’s
Secretary, the Department management team, the Programme’s Directive
Committees, the Research Centre
management team and the representative of non-academic staff in the
Department’s Council met monthly with the different Departments and Research
Centres of the EEUM.
These visits
culminated in the “Workshop EEUM: Engineering for the Future”, a first moment
that will take new initiatives and spaces for debate in the short term.
