AEM - Applied and Environmental Microbiology (Doctoral Programme)

The FCT Doctoral Programme AEM - Applied and Environmental Microbiology is a partnership between several national institutions: Universidade do Minho (UMinho), Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA), Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB), Universidade de Lisboa (UL), Biosystems & Integrative Sciences Institute (BioISI), Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (IBB, IST/UL), Centre for Environmental Biology (CBA), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UL) and Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB).

The AEM Doctoral Programme offers multidisciplinary training that includes in-depth understanding of molecular and cellular microbiology and of the contemporary view of genome-based microbiology, microbial diversity and evolution. The Programme provides hands-on experience on the use of quantitative and integrative approaches made available through the exploitation of omics tools in a system and synthetic microbiology perspective. The Programme prepares students for the use of biological engineering tools, providing them with the required expertise to transform the acquired knowledge into industrial and environmental biotechnology products or applications.

The AEM Doctoral Programme allows students to obtain a PhD Degree in one of the EEUM’s existing Doctoral Programmes, namely Chemical and Biological Engineering.
