Habilitation Exams: Manuel Filipe Vieira Torres dos Santos (DSI)

18th and 19th January 2017, Largo do Paço, Braga
Manuel Filipe Vieira Torres dos Santos, professor at the Department of Information Systems (DSI) of the EEUM and a member of the ALGORITMI Research Centre of the EEUM, obtained in January the academic degree of habilitation, approved by unanimity of the jury members.

The habilitation exams took place over two days, beginning with the presentation of the candidate’s curriculum to the jury members – Ernesto Jorge Fernandes Costa (University of Coimbra), António Maria Palma dos Reis (University of Lisbon), Mário Jorge Costa Gaspar da Silva (University of Lisbon), José Júlio Alves Alferes (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), João Álvaro Brandão Soares de Carvalho (University of Minho), Ricardo Jorge Silvério Magalhães Machado (University of Minho), Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez (University of Salamanca, Spain) – followed by an analysis and discussion of a report that addresses the goals, learning results, learning outcomes, programme, content and teaching methods related to the curricular unit in Knowledge Based Systems within the scope of the Information Systems educational offer at the University of Minho.

On the second part of the exam, Manuel Filipe Vieira Torres dos Santos presented the seminar entitled “Application of Semiautomatic Knowledge Acquisition Techniques Based on Automatic Learning”.

The habilitation degree is granted to professors to whom a high merit professional curriculum demonstrating relevant research activity, advanced training or supervision is recognised, along with the authorship of high quality scientific papers after obtaining a doctoral degree.
