Founded in 1975, the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) has been consistently growing as an agent of change, providing and extraordinary contribution to the advancement of science and technology. The School has strengthened its position among the best Portuguese Engineering education institutions with International visibility. Today, this is a mature School, with the future in mind, which holds a renowned position amongst its institutional counterparts. In this section, we present the evolution of the School from its first steps to the present, proudly recalling those who contributed towards the creation and development of our School of Engineering.
On occasion of the School's 25th anniversary commemoration, and under the coordination of the then Dean of the School, Professor António Guimarães Rodrigues, the book "History of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho" was launched. The book aimed at gathering a sequence of testimonies from all former Deans. The book is now available online (only in Portuguese).
"What stands out the most from the records gathered on occasion of this 1st edition is the existing culture which characterises and defines the School of Engineering. This culture mirrors not only its capacity to respond to challenges presented in each evolution period but also its ability to working pro-actively, anticipating needs and promoting external conditions which guarantee its viability. These capacities, when allied to regular criticism and self-criticism, have granted the School of Engineering with the most valuable mechanisms for future projection. Each 'generation' is responsible for receiving the testimony and its related challenges, for creating and recreating these challenges and for forecasting future challenges."
