Paulo Sampaio elected Board member of the American Society for Quality Back

Paulo Sampaio, Associate Professor from the Department of Production and Systems (DPS) and Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), was elected as Board Member of the American Society for Quality.
Paulo Sampaio, Associate Professor from the DPS and Vice-Dean of the EEUM, was elected as Board Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), a world leader entity in the area of Quality. From the 1st January 2018 on, Paulo Sampaio – who devotes his activity to research in the area of Quality and Organisational Excellence at the DPS of EEUM – will take office until 31st December 2019. This was the first time that a Portuguese researcher was elected for the top management body of ASQ.

To Paulo Sampaio, this nomination represents “a recognition for the EEUM in the area of Quality. The School [of Engineering] and the University of Minho are very important players in this area worldwide”. On a personal level, the researcher commented on being very proud by this nomination: “It has always been my ambition to be part of the top level of the ASQ, as far as a management position is concerned”, he concluded.

In November 2016, the researcher was included for the second time in the “40 New World Voices of Quality” group.

Paulo Sampaio completed his bachelor degree in Industrial Management and Engineering in 2002 and his PhD in Production and Systems Engineering in 2008, both at the University of Minho. He is a researcher at the Supply-chain, Logistics and Transportation Systems Group from the ALGORITMI Research Centre, developing his activity as professor and researcher in the areas of Quality and Organisational Excellence. He coordinates the ALGORITMI Working Group on Business Excellence and is also Country Counsellor at the American Society for Quality (ASQ) for Portugal.

He is also a member of several organisations in the Quality research area, such as the Technical Standardisation Committee 80 – Quality Management and Quality Assurance, the Portuguese Institute for Quality, representing UMinho, the ASQ Influential Voices Group, the ASQ’s Feigenbaum Medal Committee, the ASQ’s Global Advisory Board and the Certification Forum of the Portuguese Institute for Quality. He has received several international awards for his work in his focus R&D area.
