Habilitation Exams: José Luís Carvalho Martins Alves (DEM) Back

José Luís Carvalho Martins Alves, professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) of the EEUM, obtained in December the academic degree of habilitation, approved by unanimity of the jury members.

The habilitation exams took place over two days, beginning with the presentation of the candidate’s curriculum to the jury members – Luís Filipe Menezes (University of Coimbra), Jorge Alberto Cadete Ambrósio (University of Lisboa), António Torres Marques (University of Porto), Pedro Manuel Ponces Rodrigues de Castro Camacho (University of Porto), José Carlos Fernandes Teixeira (EEUM), Filipe Samuel Correia Pereira da Silva (EEUM), João Paulo Flores Fernandes (EEUM) – followed by an analysis and discussion of a report that addresses the framework, characterisation, objectives, teaching-learning strategies, evaluation and the programme of the curricular unit Intelligent Conformation, in the scope of the Integrated Master Programme in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Minho.

On the second part of the exam, José Luís Carvalho Martins Alves presented the seminar entitled “Isotropy Matters”, during which the professor addressed the importance and relevance of the specifications of isotropic and asymmetric plastic flow of metallic materials, and their impact on ductility and damage, as well as their respective industrial applications.

The habilitation degree is granted to professors to whom a high merit professional curriculum demonstrating relevant research activity, advanced training or supervision is recognised, along with the authorship of high quality scientific papers after obtaining a doctoral degree.
