The Assistant Professor of the Department of Production and Systems (DPS) and Vice-Dean of the EEUM was recently invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of two of the main scientific journals in Quality research – the International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management and The TQM Journal.
Paulo Sampaio, professor at the Department of Production and Systems (DPS) and researcher at the ALGORITMI research centre of the EEUM, was recently invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of two of the main scientific journals in Quality research, both from Emerald publisher.

The International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management is one of the best scientific journals in Quality research, placed on the top 3 journals in the area. The journal deals with all aspects of business and manufacturing improvements, from the training of senior managers, to innovations in processing and production to raise standards of product quality.

The TQM Journal, another top indexed journals in Quality research, provides practical guidance and discussions covering the successful implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles.

As far as the position of an Editorial Advisory Board member are concerned, Professor Paulo Sampaio explains: “Apart from the usual paper review process, which is still a task of a member of the Editorial Advisory Board, it is also expected that one contributes towards promoting the journal in several contexts, assessing special issues proposals, as well as proposing new themes for these issues, as ultimately defining the journal’s editorial guidelines”.

“An invitation to take on such position is always a relevant moment for a researcher. This translates into a recognition of the accomplished results and its importance for the research area we are devoted to. These two invitation are even more meaningful as they were made by two of the most important scientific journals in Quality research”, Paulo Sampaio refers.
Paulo Sampaio completed his bachelor degree in Industrial Management and Engineering in 2002 at the University of Minho. He holds a PhD in Production and Systems Engineering from the same university, in 2008. From January 2009, he is a professor in Quality at the Department of Production and Systems (DPS) and a researcher at the ALGORITMI research centre. In 2012, due to his innovative contribution for Quality area, he was awarded the Feigenbaum Medal by the American Society for Quality (ASQ), the most prominent international award in Quality aimed at annually awarding an individual 35 years old or younger, who has displayed outstanding characteristics of leadership, professionalism, and potential in the field of quality. More recently, in 2014, he was accepted in the prestigious International Academy for Quality (IAQ), through an admission process in which the new member is proposed by two scholars from two continents other than the candidate’s.
