Informatics Engineering student wins Feedzai Award for Academic Excellence and Grit Back

Fernando Mendes, student from the Integrated Master Programme in Informatics Engineering, was one of the winners of the first edition of the award created by the Portuguese startup Feedzai.
The Portuguese startup Feedzai granted the national award of the first edition of “Feedzai Award for Academic Excellence and Grit” to two Informatics students. One of the awardees is Fernando Mendes, 5th year student of the Integrated Master Programme in Informatics Engineering of the EEUM.

The winners, recognised by their academic performance and other significant developed projects, received the awards during Pixels Camp, in Lisbon. The prize is a scholarship equivalent to a full annual tuition fee.

“Feedzai contacted some of the main Portuguese universities to choose a set of three students from each institution, boys and girls. From all the candidates, one boy and one girl were selected as winners”, Fernando Mendes told ENGINews: “The award aimed at recognising not only academic performance but also further contributions to the programming community and society in general. Apart from our CV, we had to send them our academic records. They also held a short interview where we talked about our academic pathway and extracurricular projects and achievements”, he added. Concerning the importance of this recognition, the student referred this was an excellent reward for all the effort along his degree.

The “Feedzai Award for Academic Excellence and Grit” is an award created by the Portuguese startup Feedzai aiming at recognising students not only for their academic performance but also for achieving results beyond the academic spectrum. “Candidates are selected by a Professors Committee from the Departments of Informatics of the universities involved in this first edition, namely Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, University of Minho, University of Coimbra and Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon”, Feedzai announces in an official press release.
