Full Professor from the School of Engineering of
the University of Minho (EEUM) distinguished by research in the prevention of
occupational risks.
Pedro Arezes,
Full Professor from the Department of Production and Systems of the EEUM, was
distinguished with the international award “Prever” – Occupational Risk
Prevention, from the General Council of Industrial Relations and Labour
Sciences (CGRICT) of Spain. The award highlighted his unique path in the study
of risk prevention in the workplace.
“I am honoured
with this recognition, which is the result of the work of an excellent team of
researchers with whom I collaborate daily and of the constant and unequivocal
support of the University of Minho and its School of Engineering”, the director
of the MIT Portugal Programme – who won in the “Individual” category, being one
of the rare Portuguese’s awarded in recent years – said.
The award was
granted at the University of Cordoba, Spain, at a ceremony which counted on the
presence of its Rector, José Carlos Villamandos, and by the President of the
CGRICT, José Andrés Ruiz. It arose following other awards already granted to
the EEUM’s professor, such as the medals of merit of the Brazilian Society of
Work Safety Engineering and the Brazilian Association of Civil Engineering, and
the honour distinction of the Necmettin Erbakan University, in Turkey. Granted
since 1998 in several categories, the “Prever” awards annually distinguished
professionals, companies or entities that have highlighted themselves by their
activity in the area of occupational risk prevention.
