José António Covas, Full Professor of the Department of Polymer Engineering (DEP) and researcher at the Institute for Polymers and Composites (IPC) of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), was recently nominated Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal International Polymer Processing.
Professor José António Covas was recently nominated by the governing bodies of the Polymer Processing Society (PPS) for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal International Polymer Processing. International Polymer Processing offers original research contributions, invited review papers and recent technological developments in processing thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers and fibres as well as polymer reaction engineering. The high quality of contributions is ensured through a strict peer-review of manuscripts submitted by leading experts around the world. “As for most of the international scientific journals, the editor-in-chief is responsible for editing the journal and interacting with the publishing company (in this case, Carl Hanser Verlag, in Munich)”, José António Covas refers. The nomination for this position is quite prestigious, as it embodies the recognition of one’s scientific, communication and management skills by the peers.

José António Covas is Full Professor at the Department of Polymer Engineering (DEP) of the EEUM since 1998. His research interests include polymer extrusion, compounding & reactive extrusion, nanocomposites and in-process characterization. He has authored 175 papers in international journals with peer reviewing, books and book chapters, as well as 10 patents. He is Editor of the International Polymer Processing Journal and member of the Editorial Board of four other scientific journals. He is Vice-President of PIEP (Innovation Pole in Polymer Engineering), a private non-profit R&D organization and cooperates with industry via projects aiming at product or materials development and process optimization.
