Pedro Henriques is the new Director of the Department of Informatics of the EEUM Back

Pedro Henriques, Assistant Professor from the Department of Informatics (DI) of the EEUM, took office as the new Director of the DI of the EEUM on the 12th December.
To Pedro Henriques, this nomination represents “the confidence placed in me to fulfill this mandate”, he refers. “I intend to understand the School’s philosophy and support it in building a stronger department. I also want to work closely with the directors of the centres we have – ALGORITMI and HASLab – and we will try to bring all these forces together in order to have a serene, strong and visible department”, he adds.

Pedro Henriques completed his bachelor degree in Electrotechnical/Electronics Engineering in 1977 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and his PhD in Computer Science in 1993 at the University of Minho. In 2012, he completed the Habilitation Exams at the same institution, having supervised more than a dozen doctoral theses. He is a researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Centre, on Computer Science and Technology, developing his activity also as professor and researcher in the areas of Program Comprehension, Visualization and Animation and Data Mining preparation.

He was Member of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA) and President of the Coordination Board for 2006-2007, 2008-2009, and 2010-2011. He was also coordinator of several research projects, as well as co-author of several book publications. He also contributed to the publication of numerous scientific articles in international journals.

The DI is responsible for the dissemination of fundamental and specialised knowledge in the areas of science and computer technology, with particular emphasis on the fields of Software Engineering, Distributed and Parallel Systems, Communications and Computer Networks, Information Security and Data Engineering. The department focuses on a rigorous approach to solving computer problems based on the adoption of formal models and systematic methods of analysis and development.
