The High Assurance
Software Laboratory (HASLab) of the EEUM is taking on two European projects
focusing on technological innovation. The Cloud Setup and CloudDBAppliance
projects have already started and promise to revolutionise the world of new
technologies.
The High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) of the EEUM, together
with the Multimedia Telecommunications Centre (CTM), will represent INESC TEC
in the Cloud Setup project, promoted by a consortium composed by MOG
Technologies and INESC TEC.
Developed in particular for the media, this project aims to investigate
innovative and secure ways of using the cloud in professional production
environments of audiovisual content, as well as develop a set of integrated
tools, linked to information processing, that is, capture, transfer or import
different types of video, audio or media image information.
Compatible with file-based acquisition systems, the project has as main
goal the ability to automatically detect specific segments in audiovisual
content and replace them with others, adapted to different usage scenarios.
The Cloud Setup project addresses a set of problems and needs detected
in the media sector, whether created by the convergence of broadband
technologies with traditional broadcasting systems, by the increasing number of
media platforms (televisions, smartphones, tablets, etc.), or by the growing
affirmation of cloud platforms, which have become one of the preferred
distribution channels of such content.
Also linked to cloud technological innovation is the CloudDBAppliance
project, which promises to revolutionise the database system in online
platforms.
The CloudDBAppliance, European Cloud In-Memory Database Appliance with
Predictable Performance for Critical Applications, aims to build a
European-level database platform that relies entirely on cloud technologies,
promoting the concept of "Database as a Service", i.e. a database
viewed as a service with high availability in the cloud. In addition, this
project will provide predictable performance, robustness and reliability, as
found in installations in centralized architectures, such as mainframes.
This project, kicked-off during a meeting which took place in December 2016
in Grenoble, France, counts on a consortium made up of 11 academic and
industrial partners, namely Bull Atos Technologies, LeanXcale, ActiveViam, BTO,
H3G, IKEA, INESC TEC, Technical University of Madrid, INRIA, Cloudbiz and
SingularLogic. The CloudDBAppliance project will be funded in a total of 5
million euros by the European Commission.
