The University of Minho
(UMinho) celebrated its 43rd anniversary on 17th February 2017 at the Medieval Room,
Largo do Paço, Braga. This year, the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo
de Sousa, participated in the solemn anniversary ceremony.
The ceremony started with the intervention of
UMinho’s Rector, António M. Cunha. Bruno Alcaide, President of the
Student Association, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, President of the General Council of the UMinho, Fernanda
Rollo, Secretary of State of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the
President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, also delivered their
commemorative speeches.
The Scientific Merit Award was granted to Paulo Lourenço, Full Professor
from the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) of the School of Engineering of
the UMinho (EEUM).
Maria Conceição Peixoto Marques (Department of Production and Systems –
DPS of the EEUM) received the University Medal for completing 30 years working
at the UMinho.
During the ceremony, Merit Awards and Doctoral Diplomas were also
awarded.
The following students of the EEUM received
Merit Awards:
Mariana Isabel Barreiro Enes (Integrated
Master programme in Engineering and Industrial Management) received the Guimarães Municipality Award (granted to
the best student from all 1st cycle degrees, taught at the Campus of Azurém,
which achieved the best final classification, equal to or higher than 16/20).
Filipe Manuel Mota Miranda (Integrated
Master programme in Biomedical Engineering) received the Caixa Geral de
Depósitos Award (CGD bank grants annually 11 merit scholarships to the students
with the best final classification, one for each School or Institute of the
UMinho).
Micael Teixeira Gonçalves (Integrated Master programme in Engineering
and Industrial Management), Carlos Daniel Araújo Ferreira (Integrated Master
programme in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering), Paulo Sérgio
Cunha Vicente (Integrated Master programme in Industrial Electronics and
Computer Engineering) and Pedro Miguel Cunha da Silva (Integrated Master
programme in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering) received the
Associação Industrial do Minho – AIM Indústria Award (granted to the best
EEUM’s student, which achieved the best final classification, equal or higher
than 17/20).
Inês de Castro Vasconcelos Martins do Amaral (Doctoral programme in Textile Engineering) received her doctoral
diploma.
Musical interpretations were performed by the UMinho’s Academic Choir,
accompanied by the Camerata – String Orchestra, from the Department of Music of
UMinho, conducted by Maestro Rui Paulo Teixeira.
