The Department of
Production and Systems (DPS) of the EEUM celebrated its 41st
anniversary on 6th February. The event took place in the Nobel
Auditorium of the Campus of Azurém of the University of Minho, in Guimarães.
The DPS Day 2017 was marked by the theme
“Towards change: from mechanisation to cyberindustry” and aimed to enrich the
process of training the DPS students, explore new paths for research and
identify actions of valorisation and knowledge transfer to the community.
The morning session was marked by the Industrial Engineering and System’s
Workshop, which culminated in the presentation of masters’ dissertations by
students of several DPS education projects. In the afternoon, two presentations
were held: Nuno Melo, MEP, focused on the future challenges arising from the
European crisis. On the other hand, Carlos Ribas, Administrator at Bosch,
focused on the “Digital Age: change through numbers”. On the role of the EEUM
and the DPS in industrial modernisation, Carlos Ribas argues that Engineering
“will have to continue to reinvent itself, to discover new solutions and new
horizons, because there is still a lot to explore”.
The closing session was held by José Valério de Carvalho, director of the DPS.
“We are living a period full of reasons to congratulate ourselves, as we have
very good students and education programmes. On our side, we are ready to
establish and strengthen cooperation ties with companies in order to develop
further projects”, José Valério de Carvalho highlighted.
The event was organised by the DPS, the Student Group of Engineering and
Industrial Management (NEEGIUM) and the Alumni EGIUM (Association of Former
Students of Engineering and Industrial Management of the University of Minho).
