Dean of the EEUM joins EST-IPCA’s anniversary commemorations Back

João L. Monteiro took part in a panel discussion on the importance of technology for the future of labour market, included in the commemoration of the 13th anniversary of the Technology School of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA).
On the 29th May, João L. Monteiro, Dean of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), participated in the commemorations of the 13th anniversary of the Technology School of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (EST-IPCA). The solemn ceremony took place at IPCA Campus, in Barcelos.

The Dean of the EEUM was invited to be part of the panel discussion on the importance of technology for the future of labour market. The debate was launched from the presentation of project NEWLEVEL, recently approved by the Norte Portugal Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N), in the area of digital entertainment. The debate was moderated by Mariana Carvalho, professor at EST-IPCA and researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Centre of the EEUM. The panel also included Ester Gomes da Silva, Vice-President of CCDR-N, António Benjamim da Costa Pereira, President of Esposende Municipality, and Nuno Miguel Feixa Rodrigues, Director of the Technology School of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave.

To João L. Monteiro, “considering the role of the EEUM in regional planning and development to leverage national development and taking into account the idea of Minho region and mobility to and from it, a strategic relationship with other educational agents is of the utmost importance to boost this region we are included in”.

Project NEWLEVEL – Boosting an ecosystem to foster the games, digital and interactive applications’ development industry will be carried out from May 2017 to April 2019. This project aims at implementing a structured action plan to provide SMEs with collective support tools to leverage this industry sector in the Northern region of Portugal, considering the growing strategic focus on digital entertainment industry in several countries.
