The Presidency’s team of
the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) recently visited
the School of Industrial Engineering of the University of Vigo, with the aim to
strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions.
As
part of the EEUM’s internationalisation strategy, in particular to promote
Portugal-Spain cooperation, the EEUM’s Presidency team traveled to Vigo, Spain,
to visit the School of Industrial Engineering of the University of Vigo
(EEI-UVigo). The EEUM’s delegation was received by the Director of the
EEI-UVigo, Professor Juan Pardo Froján, and the assistant director of
International Relations of the School, Professor Cristina Trillo Yáñez. Following
the welcome meeting, an EEUM presentation session took place, which was open to
the academic community of the EEI-UVigo. Around two dozen professors and
researchers
participated and showed interested in learning about the research
activities of the EEUM and to strengthen collaboration ties between the two
institutions, in the area of research and education.
The programme also included a meeting with the Vice-Rector for
International Relations of the University of Vigo, Professor Manuel Fernandez
Iglesias, with Vigo Technological programme commissioner, Professor Edita de
Lorenzo, and the Director of the International Relations Office of the
University of Vigo, Dr. Amelia Rodríguez Piña. In the afternoon, the EEUM’s
delegation had the opportunity to visit several laboratories of the EEI-UVigo,
namely the Laboratory of Electronic Technology, Systems and Automation
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Applied Physics.
The visit to the EEI-UVigo followed ongoing collaboration activities
between the two Schools and a visit by the EEI-UVigo to the EEUM in March 2017,
seeking to extend cooperation to other common scientific areas. The visit is
also part of the recently launched Iberian Agenda for Knowledge and Higher
Education (AICES), an initiative of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese
Universities (CRUP) and the Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades
Españolas (CRUE).
”These are two institutions which are close not only geographically speaking
but also as far as intervention areas are concerned. It is very important for
us, the EEUM, to have international level radius of intervention, but also
close enough to allow us to grow. The University of Vigo has grown significantly
and it is our ambition to maintain this collaborative partnership”, João
Monteiro, Dean of the EEUM, highlighted.
