The connection to
business sector is one of the School of Engineering of the University of
Minho’s (EEUM) strongest identity brands. The School [of Engineering] gives
high priority to these activities, which allow it to
understand the changing needs of the
industry, the integration of its graduates into the business sector and select
relevant research topics that enhance national development.
On
the 26th October 2017, the EEUM received a visit of the company
BeStitch, which counted with the presence of António Vieira, BeStitch’s
Designer; Ana Paula Fernandes, Director of the Image and Design’s Department,
and Sandra Rita Machado, Director of Quality, Environment and Safety. The main
objectives of the visit were to know more about the EEUM and its fields of
activity regarding education, research and also as far as internationalisation
activities are concerned.
The
delegation – which traveled to the Campus of Azurém, in Guimarães, - was
received by the Vice-Dean of the School, Paulo Sampaio, in order to bring the
EEUM and the local and regional industry closer. This visit also aimed at
establishing further collaborations with the areas of Textile Engineering,
Fashion Design and Marketing and Engineering and Industrial Management.
“In
the medium term, BeStitch showed interest in collaborating in research
projects. Therefore, this follows our continuous effort of bringing the EEUM
closer to companies in the region. Recently, we have noticed a gradual recovery
of the textile business sector in the Portuguese economy, which in turn is
mirrored in their approach to the School”, Paulo Sampaio, Vice-Dean of the
EEUM, highlighted.
The
EEUM has been registering an increasing demand for its education programmes.
The School has also been widely acknowledged by its close connection to
industrial entities, across its several education levels and also as far as
developing R&D&I projects in cooperation with national industry is
concerned.
