The School of Engineering of the University of
Minho (EEUM) participated in the Concreta fair. The event took place between 23rd
and 26th November 2017 at EXPONOR, in Oporto.
The EEUM participated
at Concreta 2017, a biennial fair in the areas of construction, rehabilitation,
architecture and design. The EEUM’s participation in this international event
aimed at raising the public’s awareness to new trends in innovation, as well as
to disseminate the EEUM’s educational offer.
The fair was
held at EXPONOR, in Oporto. The EEUM was included in the space devoted to the
Portuguese Board of Engineers – Northern Region (OERN), a 1.300 m2 pavilion,
with 25 Board members and partner institutions. The fair’s opening session, on
the 23rd November, counted on the presence of the Dean of the EEUM,
João L. Monteiro, and the Vice-Dean Paulo Sampaio.
In addition to
the presence in its own stand, the initiative included the presentation of several
lectures that involved the Department of Civil Engineering and the platform
Fibrenamics Green. The School also exhibited prototypes and equipment
representative of innovations related to the resistance and durability of the
materials and waste valorisation.
“The presence
in this initiative aimed to show what we do to the public in general, but in
particular to the industrial community and students. As this fair is visited
mainly by students, our goal was also to promote the School’s educational offer,
especially in the area of Civil Engineering, with the mission to attract new
students to the UMinho”, João L. Monteiro, Dean of the EEUM, clarified.
With the
participation in the event, the EEUM sought to disseminate the School’s
competences in its various fields of activity, namely in the area of Civil
Engineering, innovative materials and sustainability in construction.
