The School of Engineering
of the University of Minho (EEUM) presented achieved results and discussed strategic
guidelines for the future.
According to Article 26th of the EEUM’s statutes, the
Advisory Council of the EEUM is the consultative body to advise the School's
government bodies regarding strategic definition subjects, as well as issues
related to pedagogical, scientific and interaction with society activities.
The Advisory Council of the EEUM, composed by members appointed by the
School Council, met on the 5th January. The goal was to present a synthesis
of the actions carried out during 2017 in each of the main activity areas of
the School: Education, Research, Link to industry and society,
Internationalisation, Communication and External and internal strategy. The
EEUM’s Advisory Council was also invited to discuss the theme “Engineering for
the Future”, advising the School on the main strategic guidelines for the next
few years.
Once again, the
Counsellors congratulated the EEUM’s Dean and Vice-Deans for the achieved
results in its several activity areas. The Advisory Council suggested a few
additional strategies, particularly as far as specialised educational offer,
connection to industry network in education and research & innovation and relation
to society are concerned.
“The Counsellors acknowledged the School’s positive evolution in the
several domains of its activity during the last few years”, Professor João
Monteiro, Dean of the EEUM, refers. “The Advisory Council is a means to extend the School’s external
visibility and, simultaneously, to get hold of an external perception of our
activity. In the last three years, for instance, this has allowed us to invest
in Image and Communication, which the Counsellors identified as one of the most
substantial improvements”, he adds.
