José Creissac Campos, Assistant Professor from the Department of Informatics (DI) of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), was appointed as member of the College of Assessors of the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The researcher took office on the 10th January.
José Creissac Campos, Assistant Professor from the DI of the EEUM and researcher at the High Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), also from the EEUM, was appointed, in January 2018, member of the College of Assessors of the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

MBIE is seeking experts globally to assess scientific research proposals for the annual Endeavour Fund, the New Zealand Government’s competitive funding vehicle for scientific research. This fund invests in excellent research that has high potential to positively transform New Zealand’s future economic performance, sustainability and integrity of our environment, and help strengthen the society.

The researcher will have as role to evaluate proposals of projects submitted to the fund – in terms of quality – and propose if they should be financed. “As a member of MBIE, I give a technical opinion on whether the project has scientific excellence and if the responsible team is qualified. In the first stage, I have to evaluate this scientific excellence, but I have a double function: coordinator and evaluator. At a later stage, it is necessary to look at a set of evaluations and formulate a final recommendation that is forwarded to MBIE”, José Creissac Campos clarified.

José Creissac Campos was also appointed a Senior Member of ACM. This distinction recognises the ACM members with at least 10 years of professional experience and five years of continuous professional membership, who have demonstrated performance through technical leadership, and technical or professional contributions.

José Creissac Campos completed his 1st cycle degree in Systems and Informatics Engineering in 1991 at the University of Minho and his PhD in Computer Sciences in 2000 at the York University, U.K. He develops his activity in the DI of the EEUM since 1991 and he is a researcher at the HASLab, also of the EEUM. His research interests focus on Interactive Systems Engineering, at the intersection of Formal Methods, Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Interaction. He is President of IFIP working group 2.7/13.4 on User Interface Engineering and an ACM Senior Member.
