The management team of the Centre for Textile
Science and Technology (2C2T) of the School of Engineering of the University of
Minho (EEUM) took over on the 16th March.
Fernando
Ferreira, Associate Professor from the Department of Textile Engineering (DET)
of the EEUM, was elected Director of the Centre for Textile Science and
Technology (2C2T) for the period 2018-2021. The management team also counts on
Ana Maria Rocha, Assistant Professor from DET, as assistant director.
In his
acceptance speech, the new director greeted particularly the former direction
team and underlined the trust bestowed on him by his colleagues upon his
election: “We will continue to make a great effort to rejuvenate and revitalise
the centre, with the aim of working more and better. The University of Minho
affirms its excellence in research and the 2C2T Research Centre will continue
to work to provide conditions where everyone feels motivated”, Fernando
Ferreira reinforced.
Fernando Ferreira completed his bachelor degree in Textile Engineering in
1984 at the University of Minho and his PhD in Textile Industries in 1991 at
the Leeds University, in England. He is an Associate Professor at the DET of
the EEUM since 1997 and his areas of interest focus on Smart Textiles, Multifunctional
Textiles, Energy Harvesting Textile and Apparel Monitoring Control Processes
and Technologies.
Fernando Ferreira coauthored more than 20 papers published in
international scientific magazines and more than 70 communications published in
international conference proceedings. He is Director of the 2C2T Research
Centre since June 2003 and Director of the PhD programme in Textile Engineering
of the University of Minho since September 2008. He was also Director of the
DET of the EEUM from June 2004 to December 2010.
The Centre for
Textile Science and Technology (2C2T) started its activity in 1978, being the
first R&D unit in Portugal specialised in the field of Fibrous Materials
Engineering and Design. The strategic project of the 2C2T aims at enhancing the
competitive position of the European industries by building a knowledge-base on
science and engineering of fibre-based materials and processes. The R&D
activity is developed in tune with industrial needs, involves multidisciplinary
teams and results are expressed in numerous scientific publications, patents
and prototypes.
