The School of Engineering of the University of
Minho (EEUM) participated in the Open Weekend promoted by the University of
Minho (UMinho) between 19th, 20th and 21st April. The initiative was intended
for future students, families and pedagogical supervisors.
During three
days (Thursday to Saturday), the UMinho offered a programme full of activities,
scientific demonstrations, cultural presentations, lectures and experiences.
All the Academy's Schools and Institutes – as well as UMinho's services – have
been involved in this interaction with future students.
“Yoghurt
production”, “Hello World”, “Hands-on!”, “Metals and their properties”, “Fun
Fan”, “DIY Piano”, “New Materials – functional textiles”, “3D projection and
printing” were, among others, some of the
activities promoted by the EEUM in the Open Weekend. The initiative was disseminated by UMinho and
aimed to attract future students to science and technology areas.
The EEUM
opened its doors to an open weekend which aimed to show the School of
Engineering in its natural and daily dynamics, where the future students had the
opportunity to have a more direct contact with the academic community.
“This event
allows students to be familiar with the reality of the School of Engineering
and the University of Minho. For the first time, we gather at the Open Weekend future
students and families in the activities developed and the feedback could not
have been more positive. This more direct contact with the academic dynamics
ensures a more effective choice of the students, as far as the educational
offer of EEUM is concerned”, Rosa Vasconcelos, President of the Pedagogical
Council of the EEUM, highlighted.
The initiative
counted with around 500 participants in the activities organised by the EEUM.
