The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a scientific-political organization established within the framework of the United Nations and is the main international body for the assessment of climate change
Andrea Zille, a PhD researcher at the Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T), was appointed lead author of a working group of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for the 2019 revision of the guidelines for national inventories of greenhouse gases (2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories). With the participation of more than 190 specialists, this report, which goes back to 2006, aims to update and refine the methodological orientation of the current inventory in order to remain scientifically up-to-date.

The researcher is now responsible for editing a new chapter on emissions from the textile industry, including updating the emission factors of fluorocarbons in the atmosphere in this industry. The invitation came as a follow-up to the existing co-authoring in this publication.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the body set up within the UN to assess science related to climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide policy makers with periodic scientific assessments of climate change, its implications and risks, and to propose strategies adaptation and mitigation.

Andrea Zille holds a degree in Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Environmental Biochemistry from the University of Venice, Italy, in 2000. Later, in 2005, he completed his PhD in Textile Engineering, a branch of Textile Chemistry, at the University of Minho. Between 2006 and 2011, he completed two postdoctoral studies at the University of Minho and the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC). Between 2011 and 2015 he was an Auxiliary Researcher at the Textile Science and Technology Centre (2C2T) of the University of Minho, under the "Science 2008" program. He is currently Main Researcher at 2C2T under the "FCT Researcher" program contract and leads the research line "Biotechnology and nanotechnology applied to materials" participating in numerous national and international projects.
