Álvaro Carvalho, Full Professor at the Information Systems Department of EEUM,
took office on July 18.
João
Álvaro Brandão Soares Carvalho, Full Professor of the Department of Information
Systems of EEUM, was elected director of the Department of Information Systems for
the biennium 2018-2020. The management team also
counts on Helena Cristina Coutinho Duarte Rodrigues, José Filipe Sá Rodrigues
Soares and Manuel Filipe Vieira Torres Santos as assistant directors.
In
his acceptance speech, the new director thanked "the confidence that
resulted in the election of this team" and expressed his willingness to
"work for the School of Engineering in the fulfillment of our mission and
the defined objectives."
João
Álvaro Carvalho holds a degree in Systems and Computer Engineering. Between
1988 and 1991 he completed PhD studies at the University of Manchester's
Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in the United Kingdom. He is
researcher at the ALGORITMI Center and was Assistant Director of the Department
in 2000. He was President of the School of Engineering of the University of
Minho between 2009 and 2010.
João Álvaro Carvalho was also one of the promoters of
the Department of Information Systems foundation and was involved in the
creation / reformulation of several courses promoted by the department, namely:
doctoral program in Information Systems and Technologies, master's degree in
Engineering and Management of Information Systems; master's degree and
specialization course in Information Systems; masters in Information Services
and Information Sciences.
