Paulo
Flores, Full Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) of
the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), was honoured in
China. The distinction took place on the 27th September 2017 at Changzhou
University in the same country.
Paulo Flores, Full Professor from the
DEM and former student of the EEUM, was honoured by the University of Changzhou,
in China. The distinction was due to the close cooperation with that higher
education institution, in the Dynamics of Mechanisms, Micro machines and Mechatronics
Systems’ domains.
The Changzhou University stands out on
the technological innovation and the transfer of knowledge domains from its
graduates and researchers to the business fabric. The distinction was held at
the International Conference on Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing, which
was attended by several hundred participants. The lecture given by Paulo Flores
was entitled “Recent Developments in Biomechanics and Medical Devices”, during
which the researcher addressed some of the challenges and projects that have
been carried out in the scope of Mechanical
Engineering.
To Paulo Flores, this
honour represents “the excellence that Mechanical Engineering at the EEUM has
achieved in the last decade. Our Mechanical Engineering continues to be one of
the best around the world. On a personal level, this distinction reflects, on
the one hand, the recognition of the work developed and, on the other hand, is
a source of pride and happiness for the chosen path”.
Paulo Flores completed his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering in
1997 and his PhD also in Mechanical Engineering in 2005, both at the University
of Minho. He is Full Professor at the DEM of the EEUM since 2013.
His research activity focuses on
Dynamics of Mechanical Systems, Mechanics Science, Tribology, Computational
Mechanics, Biomechanics and Medical Device Design and Higher Education.
He is author of around half a thousand
scientific, technical and pedagogical publications and has been awarded several
dozen national and international scientific awards. He has been involved in the
organisation of numerous national and international scientific meetings, and
has been invited to present lectures and evaluate scientific projects for
international organisations. He is a member of the Research Unit for Electromechanical
Microsystems (CMEMS-UMinho), where he coordinates the research group on
Biomedical Applications and Systems. Since 2016, he has been the editor-in-chief
of the Mechanism and Machine Theory journal, the most prestigious scientific
journal in the field of machines and mechanisms. He is now President of the
Portuguese Society of Biomechanics. Paulo Flores is also Director of the
Doctoral Programme in Leaders for Technological Industries and Coordinator of
the focal area Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing (EDAM-UMinho) in
the scope of the MIT programme.
