Engª Cruz
Azevedo Award referring to 2015, created by the Portuguese Association of
Experimental Stress Analysis (APAET), granted to the paper “Small strain
stiffness of a sand by means of bender elements and accelerometers: measuring
principles and applications”.
Cláudio
Pereira, António Gomes Correia and Nuno Araújo, researchers from the Institute
for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE) of the
EEUM, were granted the Engª Cruz Azevedo 2015 Award. The paper, published on
number 24 of the journal “Revista Mecânica Experimental”, was considered by a
selection jury as the higher scientific and technical merit paper published in
this journal during 2015. The paper is also co-authored by Cristiana Ferreira,
researcher from the CONSTRUCT
– Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction of the University of
Porto.
The paper,
entitled “Small strain stiffness of a sand by means of bender elements and
accelerometers: measuring principles and applications”, refers to the
development of new laboratory techniques to assess soil stiffness throughout
the use of seismic wave-based techniques, particularly measurements and
interpretation of seismic wave velocities from tests performed on a sand and
based on the combined use of bender elements with accelerometers. This
technology may potentially be expanded to applications to a wide range of
geomaterials.
The award
ceremony will take place during the banquet at the National Congress of
Experimental Mechanics, from the 12th to the 14th
October, at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC), in Lisbon.
