​Procedure: ​Doctoral Degree under Joint Supervision (incoming students)

1st step: signature of the Memorandum of Understanding and Addendum:

1.       Signature of the Memorandum of Understanding between both institutions (if not available);

2.       Preparation and signature of the Addendum – the Addendum should be sent by DocUM at least 3 months prior to the beginning of the mobility period at the host institution;

3.       Preparation of the work plan to be attached to the Addendum.

2nd step: Enrolment at UMinho

1.       The Direction Board of the Doctoral Program sends the signed Addendum to the Pedagogic Council of the School of Engineering, through DocUM.

2.       The student formalizes his/her enrolment at UMinho at the Academic Services.

3rd step: Admission to the PhD thesis

After formalizing the enrolment, the student must submit the application for admission to the thesis.

Thesis admission request:

  1. The request to the thesis admission must be made in accordance to the Thesis/ Doctoral Program Admission Request, which should be filled in by the student and sent to the supervisor, who must validate it and send it to Steering Committee, along with the following documents:
  • Candidate's request (template attached to the form)
  •  Acceptance of Scientific Supervisor(s) (template attached to the form)
  • Declaration from the Research Centre (template attached to the form)
  • Declaration from the Steering Committee of the Doctoral Programme (template attached to the form)
  • PhD work plan, signed by the candidate and supervisor(s), with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 pages, comprising, at least:
    • Objectives of the PhD project;
    • Means necessary to the completion of the objectives;
    • Work schedule (mentioning the beginning of work plan)
