José Vieira, Full Professor from the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) was re-elected for a second mandate as President of FEANI.
José Vieira, Full Professor from the DEC of the EEUM and Vice-President of the National Board of Engineers (OE) between 2010 and 2016, was re-elected as President of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) on the 6th October 2017. The election was held during the General Assembly of the Federation, which took place in Vienna, Austria.

The ceremony counted on the presence of the President of FEANI’s National Committee and OE’s National Vice-President, Carlos Loureiro, who conveyed the “unconditional support for the leadership of the President reelected for the benefit of all members of the Federation” on behalf of the President of this Professional Association, Carlos Mineiro Aires.

To José Vieira, this election represents “the recognition of the work done in the first mandate and the unequivocal support to the strategic reorientation of the Federation. This support was materialised with the approval, by its General Assembly, of a new strategic plan for the next triennium. On the other hand, it is always very rewarding and honourable to be able to take on a role for a Federation whose 34 national members occupy a geographical area which covers all the latitudes and longitudes of Europe. Related to the institutional aspect, it is also very rewarding to see that both the OE and the University of Minho can be associated to this election, granting them relevance and visibility”.

FEANI – based in Brussels – is a European federation that unites national engineering associations from 34 European Higher Education Area countries. This federation represents the interests of around four million professional engineers in Europe. FEANI is striving for a single voice for the engineering profession in Europe and wants to affirm and develop the professional identity of engineers. FEANI also aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications in Europe and to strengthen the position, role and responsibility of engineers in society.
