Description


The main goal of the PDEQuiBio is to promote the excellence and research in Biological and Chemical Engineering Topics, with special emphasis on its theoretical fundamentals, comprising the specification, the project, the modulation, the representation and exploitation of biological and chemical systems, as well the integration of the associated technologies.

The PDEQuiBio aims at developing human resources competences by complementing the masters and/or "licenciados" (5 years) formation in Sciences and Engineering by giving advanced training in the area of Chemical and Biological Engineering. This program is intended not only to consolidate the formation in the traditional areas of Chemical and Biological Engineering but also to address the new and complex challenges in the new emergent areas such as Molecular biotechnology, Functional Genomics, Systems Biology and Nanotechnology.

Access to this cycle of studies requires an application to the School of Engineering of the University of Minho.

Formal requirements


Candidates must hold a Bologna 2nd cycle degree or a Master?s degree in Chemical or Biological Engineering or equivalent.

Candidates with a 5-year degree (Licenciatura) in the Biological and Chemical Engineering areas or close areas to the Biological and Chemical Engineering area, will also be admitted if holding a specifically relevant  curriculum vitae that is recognized to award competences for the completion of this 3rd cycle study by the scientific council of the engineering school.Candidates which hold a scientific, scholar or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized by the scientific council of school of engineering to award competences for the completion of this 3rd cycle study will also be admitted.

Candidates that fulfil the conditions described in paragraphs a) and c) of point 1 of the 7th article from the Doctoral Program on Biological and Chemical Engineering, and candidates that fulfil one of the conditions described in paragraphs b) and c) of point 1 of article 30º of the decree-law 74/2006, from 24th March, will also be admitted.
