At the start of the academic year 2016/2017, the
School of Engineering received 793 new students for its 14 1st cycle
degree and integrated master programmes. The EEUM filled 98% of the available
vacancies on the first phase of access to higher education through the National
Competition (CNA).
The commemorative opening ceremony for the academic
year 2016/2017 took place on the 19th September, on both UMinho’s campi Azurém
and Gualtar. The Dean and Vice-Deans of the EEUM and the first degree and
integrated master programmes directors participated in the event. The EEUM
welcomed its new students which will start their academic pathway in the first
cycle degree programme in Fashion Design and Marketing and in the integrated
master programmes in Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil
Engineering, Engineering and Management of Information Systems, Industrial
Electronics and Computers Engineering, Industrial Management and Engineering, Informatics
Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics Engineering,
Polymer Engineering, Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, and Textile
Engineering.
The University of Minho filled in 98,5% of the vacancies
opened for this year’s national competition, representing the highest completion
rate ever. In a message to the academy, Rector António M. Cunha, referred that
the CNA’s results “have confirmed that the UMinho is the university which has
grown the most at national level as far as percentage of students placed in the
first phase of the national competition is concerned”.
The UMinho is the Portuguese university with the
highest growth rate in new student placement, leaving only 44 vacancies left
for the second phase of the competition.
