Rosa M. Vasconcelos reappointed for IEEE’s EdSoc Board of Governors Back

Professor from the Department of Textile Engineering (DET) was reelected for the Board of Governors of IEEE’s Education Society (EdSoc IEEE) for a second three-year mandate. Rosa M. Vasconcelos is currently President of the Pedagogical Council and Vice-Dean of the EEUM.
Rosa Maria Vasconcelos, President of the Pedagogical Council and Vice-Dean of the EEUM, was re-elected for a new mandate as a Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Education Society's Board of Governors (EdSoc). The election for the Board of Governors is carried out among all members of Education Society. The professor from the Department of Textile Engineering (DET) of the EEUM was re-elected on the 7th October for a new mandate from 2017 to 2019. Rosa M. Vasconcelos had been elected in October 2013 for a three-year mandate, from January 2014 to December 2016.

Member of the Board of the Portuguese Society for Education in Engineering, Professor Rosa Maria Vasconcelos has supervised several scientific studies on education and organization of Engineering in Portugal, employment and transition to the marketplace, the relationship between universities and secondary level schools, and encouragement of higher education in Engineering - themes which are being studied and monitored by the Dean’s office and the Pedagogical Council of the EEUM.

The re-election as a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE’s EdSoc confirms the recognition of the work developed by Professor Rosa Maria Vasconcelos in the framework of Education for Engineering.

Rosa Maria de Castro Fernandes Vasconcelos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Textile Engineering (DET) of the EEUM since 2005. She holds a degree in Textile Engineering by the University of Minho. She is a professor at the University of Minho since 1984. She holds a PhD in Engineering – Technology and Textile Chemistry by the University of Minho, completed in 1993. She received the Rieter Award in 1993. She is responsible for several curricular units in the integrated study cycles in Textile Engineering and Engineering and Industrial Management, in the 1st cycle course of Design and Fashion Marketing, and also in the 2nd cycle courses of Fashion Design and Communication, Textile Chemistry, Advanced Textiles and Design and Marketing. Head research and research member of several R&D projects, has presented as main author or co-author many dozens of scientific journal papers and communications in international conferences. She is the President of the Pedagogical Council of the School of Engineering since 2011. She is Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho since 2013.
