Maria Teresa Amorim,
Associate Professor with Habilitation from the Department of Textile
Engineering (DET) of the EEUM, took office as the new Director of the DET of
the EEUM on the 9th February.
Maria Teresa Amorim, Associate Professor with Habilitation from the
Department of Textile Engineering (DET) of the EEUM, was recently elected
director of the department for the period 2017-2019. The management team also
counts on Joana Cunha, Assistant Professor from DET, as assistant director.
To Maria Teresa Amorim, this nomination represents “the confidence
placed in me by the colleagues, particularly Joana, for her availability to
accompany me. Over the next two years, our aim is to have a department where
everyone feels motivated. Together we can be an all-for-all department”, she
refers. “We intend to develop a project aiming at the rehabilitation of
laboratories and equipment, so we can have not only an excellence research
centre but also an excellence education”, she concludes.
Maria Teresa Amorim completed her bachelor degree in Chemistry
Engineering in 1976 at the University of Porto and her PhD also in Chemistry
Engineering at the University Claude Benard, in Lyon, France. She is a
professor and research at the Centre for Textile Science and Technology of the
EEUM, and she teaches Textile Chemistry for more than three decades.
The DET’s mission is to answer to the advanced educational and research
needs envisaging the development of the textile and apparel industries. In
partnership with the 2C2T Research Centre, the DET also promotes research
projects in scientific areas of its competence as well as 3rd cycle education
projects, the Doctoral Programmes in Textile Engineering and in Fashion Design
(the latter in cooperation with Universidade da Beira Interior).
