With the aim of expanding
the internationalisation between universities at an academic level, the School
of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) created a doctoral programme
in partnership with POLIS University, in Albania, and the University of
Ferrara, Italy.
The doctoral programme in Architecture and Urban Planning results from
an international partnership between the University of Ferrara, in Italy, and
the POLIS University, in Albania. The University of Technology, in Slovakia,
and the University of Pécs, in Hungary, participate in training and research
activities provided for the doctoral programme.
With a duration of three years and starting in 2017/2018 academic year,
the doctoral programme seeks to complement the assumptions of Architecture with
those of Urban Planning. The first area aims to empower students for the design
theories and methods in sustainable constructions; inclusive design,
accessibility to spaces, products and services, sustainable design; innovative
technologies and materials for industrial, building and structural design; materials
and techniques for the conservation of historical heritage, building
maintenance and life cycle assessment (LCA) considerations; cultural heritages,
and also innovations and ICT processes for cultural heritages use and
conservation.
The second area focuses on the city of today and tomorrow, between
environmental upgrading and rehabilitation of the existing urban fabrics; the
role of historic and cultural heritage of built-up environment and landscape in
post-industrial urban development, with special reference to policies for
sustainable local development; territory, landscape and regeneration of the
built-up environment; and also in the city governance and appropriate
development policies through land management, and economic and financial tools.
“These
collaborations are always important for the EEUM, especially regarding 3rd
cycle programmes. The University of Ferrara is a university of reference – with
which we have a very close contact – and this
exchange of students is an added value to our School”, Manuela Almeida,
professor from the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) and researcher from
the Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC), both from the
EEUM, clarified.
