José
Manuel Cardoso Teixeira, Associate Professor with Habilitation of the
Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), was re-elected director of this
department for the 2018-2019 biennium. The management team also count on Jorge
Manuel Gonçalves Branco, Assistant Professor of DEC, as assistant director.
In his speech, the director thanked everyone
involved in the electing process the trust bestowed on him and said that
"the task of director of the department should touch us all at a time in
our career, because we all have the capacity to execute it and anyone can,
therefore, take on this responsibility. " With regard to this new mandate,
he stressed that "the previous mandate was not enough to put everything I
proposed into practice, so that my proposal retakes the essential aspects of
what was the basis for my election to the previous term." José Manuel
Cardoso Teixeira also referred to the attractiveness of the Department's
teaching projects, both nationally and internationally, and expressed some
concern about what he considers to be an insufficient number of vacancies for
the Integrated Master´s in Civil Engineering (35) to cope with the demand the
market may have of these professionals after 2024, which will be when these new
students are likely to enter the labor market.
