Susana Moreira was granted the “Best Doctoral Dissertation Award” for her research work entitled “Seismic retrofit of masonry-to-timber connections in historical constructions”.
Susana Moreira, who completed her
PhD degree of Civil Engineering at the University of Minho in 2015, was
recently granted the “Best Doctoral Dissertation Award” by The Masonry Society,
based in the United States of America. The prestigious international award is
granted annually to the best doctoral thesis developed in masonry research
area.
The doctoral thesis of the
former PhD student of the EEUM is entitled “Seismic retrofit of
masonry-to-timber connections in historical constructions”. The research project
was developed under the supervision of Luís Ramos, Assistant Professor, and
Daniel Oliveira, Associate Professor, both from the Department of Civil
Engineering (DEC) of the EEUM. The project is and innovative and groundbreaking
approach to seismic behavior of connections between masonry walls and timber
structural elements, such as floors and timber
framed walls, in historical buildings.
“Apart from representing a very
significant personal achievement, this award is also an international
recognition of the quality of research developed at the University of Minho”,
Daniel Oliveira refers.
Susana Moreira is currently Assistant Professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru, the most renowned university in Peru.
The Masonry Society (TMS) is an
